balm gardens is a place of healing for both the user and environment with a focus on communal growth. the mixed-use program of affordable housing and community center allows for a strengthened connection for the local community. the focus on learning initiatives, thoughtful programming, and sustainability allows for a new, healthy, lifestyle to be promoted with a new precedent to be in place for future flint development. these initiatives and goals are achieved through rainwater collection, mass timber construction, urban gardening, the creation of third places, and the focus on the living building challenge (lbc).
